Development Coordinator

Friends of the Children-Chicago is currently seeking an enthusiastic professional to embark on a new career journey as a Development Coordinator to start in winter 2021. The Development Coordinator will support the development strategies of the organization, with a special emphasis on development operations, donor services, database management, donor communications, and event implementation.

The Development Coordinator (DC) is responsible for supporting fundraising activities in a fast-paced, start-up environment at the direction of the Development Director. The DC maintains the fundraising database, ensures accurate donor records, and provides administrative support to the department. The DC also implements donor communications including gift acknowledgements, social media, and fundraising appeals. The DC also implements small donor events and serves as a liaison to outside contractors for larger events.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Development Operations & Donor Services (approximately 30% of the position)

  • Contribute to the creation of an annual fundraising plan and maintain the department calendar.
  • Implement thank you protocols, including executing timely donor acknowledgement.
  • Maintain all development files and records.
  • Provide administrative support for board fundraising activity.
  • Provide support for the Development & Marketing Committee, including pulling reports and keeping minutes.
  • Conduct prospect research.
  • Provide support to grant writing team, including providing data, delivering proposals, and updating standard materials.
  • Implement sponsorship fulfillment for corporate donors.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Serve as liaison to database consultants.
  • Ensure accurate record‐keeping of contributions.
  • Generate and scrub customized mailing lists for mailings.
  • Reconcile donation records with accounting records.
  • Implement small donor events such as house parties, panel discussions, and Zoom gatherings.
  • Serve as a liaison with event contractors for larger events.

Database Management (approximately 30%)

  • Manage donor database (Little Green Light), including data entry, report generation, pledge tracking and reminders, and moves management.

Donor Communications & Marketing (approximately 25%)

  • Act as production manager for mail and electronic appeals, social media fundraising, e-newsletters, and donor correspondence.

Events (approximately 15%)

Work Environment:

  • This position operates in a professional office environment. It is expected the employee will be working remotely at times.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands to operate office equipment.
  • Travel to other sites in the metro area is required. Some of those sites may not be wheelchair accessible or accessible via public transportation.
  • Evening and weekend work are occasionally required.

Compensation:

  • Salary is in the $38,000 – $43,000 range, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Competitive benefits are available, including health insurance (medical/dental/vision), life insurance, 3 weeks of paid vacation, and 2 weeks of paid sick time per year. We also offer a 401K Program with employer matching up to 4% after the initial 90 days of employment.
