Friends of the Children is seeking a passionate, committed leader to use their cultural knowledge, expertise, vision, and connection to community to lead and grow Friends of the Children in Phoenix, Arizona. Our model is proven to impact generational change by empowering youth who are facing the greatest obstacles through relationships with salaried professional mentors – 12+ years, no matter what. As Executive Director for the Phoenix chapter that launched in 2022, you will work with community leaders, schools, non-profit partners, and investors to have a significant impact on foster care and intergenerational poverty in Arizona. 

Our Executive Director will be a passionate advocate for children and families facing life's greatest challenges and will be effective at communicating the urgency of our mission and success of our outcomes. They will be a dynamic and engaging spokesperson for the organization and will excel at networking and fundraising with major donors, corporate leaders, foundations, and the communities we serve. They will serve a key role in advancing diversity, equality & inclusion, and antiracism. 

The ideal candidate will have experience in working with community leaders, caregivers, families, and children, understanding the unique disparities amongst the communities served. The ideal candidate will also have good business acumen, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a soft heart for kids. They will be equally skilled at asking donors for financial support, leading strategic planning, reviewing financial statements, and overseeing program evaluation.

At Friends of the Children, you will get to think globally and act locally. You will be part of an established growing national network that provides professional mentors to thousands of children across the country. As the Executive Director for Friends of the Children-Phoenix you'll receive expert support from our National team, headquartered in Portland, Oregon. You'll also work with a talented team of leaders from other locations across the country, who collaborate to support implementation of the model and our award-winning national scaling plan.

Compensation commensurate with experience: $127,600 to $163,500 (salary with incentive)

Education and Experience Required:

  • Three years’ experience in non-profit or similar fundraising capacity, in progressively responsible roles with demonstrated fundraising and development results.
  • Three years’ experience in management/supervisory roles.
  • AZ resident for at least five years with the ability to leverage existing relationships within the community.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
